Hidayatullah National Law University was established under the Hidayatullah National University of Law, Chhattisgarh, Act (Act No.10 of 2003) by the Government of Chhattisgarh. Maxim of Hidayatullah Communal Law University, Raipur is "Dharma Sansthapanartham” (for the well-being of beginning the domination of the laws of boundless values). In the series of National Law Schools in India HNLU is a Residential University and is sixth. Under Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956. HNLU has been included in the list of the Universities maintained by the University Grants Commission and under Section 12 (B) of the UGC Act, 1956 it has been announced fit to gain Central backing in terms of the rules bordered. By the Bar Council of India under section 7 of the Advocates Act university is recognized. Visitor of the university is Hon'ble Mr. Justice Arun Mishra, Judge, Supreme Court of India and Chancellor is Hon'ble Mr. Justice Ajay Kumar Tripathi, Chief Justice, High Court of Chhattisgarh and Vice-Chancellor of the University is Shri Justice Chandra Bhushan Bajpai, Former Judge of the High Court of Chhattisgarh.
