Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University was established in 1926 as a Government Intermediate College named as Ranchi College, Ranchi. In the year 1946 it began Under-Graduate and post–graduate Courses in various subjects of Arts/Science. Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee University, Ranchi (formerly known as the Ranchi college) was established in the 1946 as the college and upgraded to the university in 2017. DSPMU offers around the 39 courses spread across the different streams like as Humanities, Science, and Social Science. Admission to the Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses is the based on the merit list prepared on the basis of the marks obtained in the concerned subjects at the Intermediate or Honors level respectively. Admission to the Vocational or Self-finance courses is on the basis of the Entrance exams conducted by the concerned department.
