Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, Imphal is arranged at Lamphelpat, Imphal, Manipur. Manipur is one of the States in the northeastern piece of the India. Manipur actually signifying "A jeweled land" settle profound inside a rich green corner of North East India. The magnificence of which once motivated Mrs. St. Clair Grimwood depicted it as A Pretty Place more delightful than many show spots of the world". Shri Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the then Prime Minister of India, paid a fitting tribute by portraying it as "Gem of India". Territorial Institute of Medical Sciences has complete zone of 300 sections of land of land and situated at around 8 km away from Imphal Airport and 1.5 km away from Imphal city.
The Institute appeared after vigorous endeavors of a couple of visionaries and was gently sustained by extraordinary heroes of the time. A 300 had relations with General Hospital was initiated by Shri Y.B. Chavan, the then Union Home Minister on October 22, 1968. It is as yet being utilized as the fundamental medical clinic square. On May 22, 1972 the establishment stone of the principal ever medicinal College, on the dirt of Manipur, having the name of Manipur Medical College was laid by Shri B.K. Nehru, the then Governor of Manipur.
The Medical College was built up as a joint endeavor of the North Eastern States. On September 14, 1972, the name of the College was changed to Regional Medical College, Imphal. The College was later renamed as North Eastern Regional Medical Collegeunder the administration of North Eastern Regional Medical College Society. From August, 1976, it was kept running under the Ministry of Home, Government of India and was the main therapeutic College kept running by the Ministry of Home. Almost 19 years after the fact, the College was again renamed as Regional Institute of Medical Sciences and its administration was taken over by NEC, Ministry of DoNER, Government of India fromApril 1,1995. After precisely 12 years, on the notable day of April 1, 2007, the Institute was moved to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
