Bangalore University offers Ph.D. degree courses in a wide range of subjects at the Doctoral level through each of its five faculties of Studies: Arts, Science, Commerce, Education, and Engineering.
* The minimum eligibility criteria for the Ph.D. course application is a Postgraduate degree in relevant discipline with minimum aggregate marks of 55% off marks (can be relaxed up to a maximum 50% for reserved category students).
* Ph.D. course Admission is based on the marks scored in the University Conducted-Entrance exam and performance in the interview round.
* Students who have qualified CSIR NET/ UGC NET/ SLET/ KSET/ GATE/ JRF or hold an accredited M. Phil. course Degree are exempt from the Ph. D course Entrance Exam. However, it is mandatory that such students go through a personal interview round with the university officials for selection.
* Approx. 500 seats are available with the university for the Ph. D course admissions across all the departments.
* Application for the Ph. D course is an online procedure, though the university requires the candidates to submit a physical copy of their application form and all the supporting documents within a specific date to the Registrar (Evaluation).
Reserved category students with annual income less than INR 2.5 LPA income, need to pay only 50% of the specified fee.
Bangalore University Ph.D. minimum Eligibility Criteria
* Ph.D. candidates should hold a post-graduation code degree from a UGC-recognized university or either a professional course degree declared equivalent to the post-graduation course degree by the corresponding statutory regulatory body or a foreign degree accredited by an authorized Assessment and Accreditation Agency.
* They should have scored a minimum aggregate of 55% made or any equivalent grade in the qualifying examination. Reserved category students are allowed a maximum relaxation of 5% of marks, up to 50%, or any equivalent relaxation of the grade.
* Candidates should bear in mind that the university will not allow any further relaxation in minimum percentage under any circumstance even if the seats remain vacant.
* Aspirants who hold a regular Degree equivalent to M.Phil. course from either an Indian or an accredited foreign institution will also be considered eligible to apply.
* However, the decision of the Registrar (Evaluation) shall be final regarding the equivalence of course degrees.
* Students who have completed M.Phil.(Regular) course work with at least 55% aggregate score or any equivalent grade (maximum relaxation of up to 50% for reserved category candidates), will be considered eligible to pursue research work leading to the Ph.D. course Degree.

Bangalore University prepares a consolidated Merit List on the basis of the Ph.D. course Entrance Exam scores. Students who score a minimum of 50% in the test find a place in the list.

A separate Merit List is prepared of the non-entrance students who have qualified the UGC/CSIR: JRF exam/ NET/ KSET/ SLET/ GATE/ Young Researchers Recognized by DST, UGC, CSIR, AICTE, INSPIRE, etc., / M. Phil. course Degree students with course work/ teachers on QIP/ foreign students, in that order, based on their qualifying examination marks secured.
* Students who feature in the consolidated merit list are invited for a counseling round with the RAC at the University.
* The RAC is responsible for allocating accepted students to research supervisors following a roster system.
* The RAC sends the list of selected applicants to the Registrar (Evaluation), post allocation, along with relevant documents for verification and approval.
* The University issues a Provisional Registration Memo to the selected students who make the requisite fee payment.
* Upon receipt of the Provisional Registration Memo, the students need to submit a tentative research proposal to the Registrar (Evaluation), through their respective University PG Department/ constituent college/ recognized research centers and assigned research supervisor.
