Established in 1965, Panchmura Mahavidyalaya is the first rural degree college and third undergraduate college in Bankura. It was named after the place Panchmura which is renowned for its terracotta crafts not only in the district of Bankura but also in India. The College is the manifestation of long-cherished dream of the locality to bring the light of higher education to the cottages of marginal farmers, land labourers and the poor. Long-sighted vision of the local educationists like Dr. Ratnakar Mandal, Shri M. K. Mukherjee (founder President of the GB), Shri C. B. Sannigrahi and Shri S.Banerjee (1st founder Principal) was transformed into reality under the benevolent leadership of Dr. Pasupati Mandal (the then MP). The generous families of the villages of Joypur and Kulbani donated considerable tracts of land on which the college was founded. Basic initial infrastructure was built with the hard earned collective contributions and untiring efforts of the local people most of whom are peasants. However, the classes of the College were started in the premises of Panchmura High School on 20th August, 1965 for three year General Degree Courses and University Entrance courses in Arts. In 1968, the College was shifted to its own premises in the newly-constructed buildings. Setting off its enlightened journey with limited resources and infrastructure, the College has been steadily augmenting its infrastructure and resources for offering contemporary undergraduate courses in Arts, Commerce and Science. Because of the suitable courses and programmes delivered by energetic and experienced professors and teachers, adequate infrastructure and facilities, and active and cooperative office staff, the College was accredited with B+ grade by NAAC in 2007 and 2016.

Library : The College has a central library that housed about 22000 text and reference books in the existing subjects and courses. In addition, daily news papers, several magazines and journals, question bank and DDTP are also available for free reading in the reading hall.
Sports : The college has sports facilities for all students.
I.T Infrastructure : The College has three Computer Centres – one for all students, one for students of the Department of Mathematics and one for Communicative English Class. All the machines in the centers are internet-connected, provided with relevant software and an uninterrupted power supply. The computer centers are dedicated to the students for studying, preparing study materials, typing, and also for browsing on the net.
Cafeteria : The college has a canteen facility for staff and students.
Auditorium : The College has an Auditorium to organize big events like conferences, cultural programs, Freshers’ Welcome, etc. It has a seating capacity for about two hundred audiences.
Laboratories : The college has a departmental-based laboratory facility for the students.
Gym : The college has a Gym facility for the students.
Guest Room/Waiting Room : The college has guest house/waiting room facilities for visiting faculty and student family members.
Parking Facility : The College has three parking sheds for bicycles and motorcycles for the students and staff. The parking shed inside the College campus is meant only for girls’ students. In addition to that there is plenty of open space for parking vehicles inside the main gate but outside of the main gated campus.
Boys Hostel : The college has a boy’s hostel facility which provides good hostel accommodation for the students.
Girls Hostel : The college has a girl's hostel facility which provides good hostel accommodation for the students.
Medical/Hospital : The college has health center with first aid facility for the students.
Convenience Store : The college has the convenience store facility for students.(like, photocopying facility & stationery etc.)

Eligible students have to appear and qualify the entrance examination conducted by the Panchmura Mahavidyalaya.
Students will be selected on the basis of their performance in the entrance examination and the qualifying examination.
Final selection will be done after document verification and the Panchmura Mahavidyalaya , Bankura fee payment process.
